Who We Are? Pelicans WEB
Established in 2024 against a backdrop of recovery and reconstruction, Pelicans WEB is more than just a local civil society organization; it is a lifeline. Registered under the Tigray Government Justice Bureau and headquartered in the heart of Mekelle, our organization was born from a grassroots necessity to bridge the gap between systemic hardship and sustainable empowerment for women.
In the wake of recent challenges in the region, women have frequently found themselves at the intersection of displacement, economic instability, and social vulnerability. Pelicans WEB operates on the fundamental belief that when you empower a woman, you stabilize a community. We serve as the vital “web”—a supportive network that connects these resilient individuals to the essential resources, legal protections, and economic opportunities they need to move from a state of survival to one of thriving.

Our Vision & Mission
Our Vision:
We envision a gender-sensitive society in which women assure their empowerment and enjoy their basic rights.
Our Mission:
We are a local civil society organization working collaboratively with governmental and non-governmental organizations to facilitate and promote the empowerment of women in Tigray. We achieve this by promoting their health, including sexual and reproductive health, supporting livelihoods, and advocating for their rights and gender equality.

🛠️ Our Core Initiatives
Based on our founding mission, our work is driven by three interconnected pillars of empowerment:
1. Health & Wellbeing (Including SRHR)
A woman’s physical and reproductive health is foundational to her empowerment. We collaborate with health bureaus and partners to:
Promote general health education and access to care.
Provide critical support for Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR).
Ensure women have the knowledge and resources to make informed decisions about their own bodies.
2. Livelihood Support
Economic dependence fuels inequality. We support women in achieving financial autonomy by:
Facilitating access to vocational training and capacity-building programs.
Connecting women with the resources needed to start or rebuild their own businesses and agricultural pursuits.
Partnering with economic development organizations to create sustainable income-generating opportunities.
.
3. Advocacy & Gender Equality
We are unapologetic advocates for the rights of women. Our advocacy work includes:
Collaborating with local governance to ensure policies are gender-sensitive and inclusive.
Raising community awareness to dismantle harmful traditional practices and gender-based violence.
Empowering women to know, demand, and enjoy their basic human rights.
